Background

Tennis is a widely adored sport, whether you're playing or watching. With 1 in every 13 Americans participating in the game, it’s likely you’ll find yourself asking these questions. Now imagine you are in need of a court. What if your usual court is occupied and you need to find another one in the area? Or perhaps you're in a new location and need to locate a nearby court. How can you find one with lights if you’re planning to play in the evening? What if you need a partner to play with? And what if you need a shop to fix your strings?

Problem

While there are many resources available for finding tennis courts and partners, there is no app that provides all the necessary details for a seamless tennis experience.

Solution

Tennis Mate is designed to be every tennis player’s dream. With the ability to find tennis courts globally, along with finding tennis partners and games.

Research Goals

Tennis players, at every level, are lacking resources for a seamless experience. What is lacking and how can we solve that problem?
This was at the forefront during our interview process.

Conducting Interviews

Are there any barriers that prevent you from playing more often?
How do you find your playing partners?
What qualities do you value in a partner?
How do you track your performance or progress in tennis?
What challenges do you face with tennis logistics?
What specific features do you wish your current tennis apps had?

Research Results

Finding players on the same level to play with
Many participants felt that a huge obstacle they face is finding a partner who is at a similar or same skill level as them.

Finding a player last minute
It is a challenge to find a player who is available to play with on a whim.

No current resources that have a court locator and a game locator.

Personas

Because there are so many types of tennis players, we feel that there are  many types of users but the goals are similar. Majority of these users are interested in finding a partner on the same skill level and location and a court locator for new locations.

Low Fidelity Wireframes

By taking our interview discoveries and personas, we started to develop a low fidelity design that incorporated these solutions.

We focus on adding features that would bring the most value to the user. These features are; "Court Locator", "Partner Locator", Posting a new game, and seeing upcoming games.

High Fidelity Design

The low fidelity wireframe quickly shaped into this high fidelity design. See how the high fidelity design transforms. After receiving feedback, edits were made to correct them.

Second Last Iteration

"There is a lot of steps...when is it ending?"

"It hard to read the text with this background colour"

"This colour makes this section look disabled."

"These icons are hard to see and unclear."

This prototype is a great indicator to the user of how easy it is to navigate this interface. And most actions of this app are mimics of typical actions used in common interfaces.
